Most of the models in this compact range weigh between 7.5 tonnes and 12 tonnes, with the box body being a sturdy place to store goods and equipment of all kinds during transport.

    The majority of the rigid Atego box vans also come with tail lifts, well-laid-out cabs and drivelines that are as powerful as they are reliable, even if you are buying a second-hand unit. With recent Atego box vans on sale second-hand, as well as more affordable models from earlier iterations of the range, you are sure to find one that will make a good purchase.

    Choice of Cabs

    Although an Atego box van may not necessarily be required for long-haul trips every day of the week, Mercedes-Benz does give the range plenty of cab variety, from the ClassicSpace cab to the BigSpace cab. Interior height ranges from 1.5 metres to 1.9 metres for the latest models, with both day and sleeper cabs available depending on buyer requirements. Crew cabs are not common on the box vans in the Atego range, but this is something that Mercedes-Benz offers, so you may find a used example on occasion.

    Technology

    Atego box vans have plenty of technology under the skin, both to keep the driver safe and comfortable as well as to make driving the truck a more streamlined process. Large, clear and cleverly laid-out instruments, with the option to add reversing cameras and more to the interior, make the daily use of this truck range a pleasure. Mercedes-Benz has even thought to add lights that can illuminate the way for making tight turns in dark environments more convenient, although as with many of the modern systems offered with Atego box vans, such functionality is optional from new and not guaranteed to make an appearance on used units.

    Euro 5 or Euro 6 Atego Box Vans Best

    Ideally, you will be looking to buy a second-hand Atego box van with either a Euro 5 or Euro 6 engine pulsing away within it. Contemporary models also offer economy-oriented software to help monitor performance, track a range of metrics and give instant feedback to the driver so that they can respond accordingly. While older models may lack these features, they still offer driveline reliability and unquestionable engineering prowess whatever their age.

    The type of box van body varies, with some offering standard barn doors at the rear, while others come with tail lifts rated for between 1000kg and 1500kg. Side access doors may be featured on some Atego trucks, while there are also refrigeration units featured in this range. Whatever the loading requirements or transport needs of your organisation, it should be possible to pair you with a used Atego box van. Any model which stands up to scrutiny of its body, engine and other systems, while coming with a current MOT and service history, will make a fine addition to any fleet of trucks. This is a good option on the second-hand market.
