The Ashcourt Group recently acquired four new 44-tonne Volvo FH Electric 6x2 tractor units to help the company meet its environmental goals. The company supplies building materials and fuels along with skip hire, waste collection, plant hire, construction, civil engineering, and demolition services to customers across Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, and the North East.

The trucks will work in the aggregate division, making deliveries from Ashcourt’s Hull facilities at Queen Elizabeth Docks and Foster Street and in Pocklington, near York, to customer sites.

“Across the whole Group, we’re making a conscious effort not to follow but to set the benchmark within the construction industry when it comes to decarbonisation,” says Emily Summerson, operations director at The Ashcourt Group. “These electric Volvos perfectly complement our ongoing investment in providing sustainable construction materials, with their arrival marking a significant step towards achieving our environmental goals.”

    About The Volvo FH Electric

Ashcourt’s Volvo FH Electrics have the maximum configuration of six batteries, providing a range of 300 kilometres (186 miles). The batteries can charge in 2.5 hours with a 250-kilowatt DC charger. The trucks’ three electric motors generate 666 horsepower (490 kW) and 2,400 newton-metres (1,770 pounds-foot) of continuous torque. They also have a traction control system engineered to keep the FH Electric steady on slippery surfaces.

“Our drivers have all given glowing feedback on the FH Electrics, especially with regards to how comfortable and quiet they are to drive,” says The Ashcourt Group’s Operations Director, Emily Summerson. (Photo courtesy of Volvo.)

The FH Electric has the standard I-Shift gearbox for a smooth, comfortable ride and the Volvo Drive+ package, which includes fully electronic air conditioning with a carbon filter, sun, mist, and air quality sensors, an electric roof hatch, dual armrests, and leather upholstery. Ashcourt’s trucks also have Volvo’s Dynamic Steering system, Adaptive Cruise Control, and spacious Globetrotter cabs with satellite navigation and the Living+ package for additional cab storage, a bottle holder, and a fridge/freezer.

“Our drivers have all given glowing feedback on the FH Electrics, especially with regards to how comfortable and quiet they are to drive,” Summerson says. “The specification ultimately makes their lives far easier.”
