Aggregate supply specialist firm Rory J. Holbrook recently expanded its fleet of over 120 vehicles with the addition of 12 new DAF XDC 450 8x4 tippers equipped with PPG insulated bodies and Edbro tipping gear. The company is headquartered in East Harling, Norfolk, and has railhead operations in Norwich and Brandon, Suffolk, and a 10-acre recycling centre in Lakenheath, Suffolk. Holbrook took on the new trucks to work on big infrastructure projects, including the Sizewell C power station and developments at Heathrow Airport.
The XDC tippers are just the latest DAF trucks, which make up 70% of the fleet, to be added. They join DAF XF 6x2 tractor units, an XG+ tractor unit, six CF 410 rear-steer 8x4 FAW sleeper cab trucks, and several other trucks from DAF.
DAF XDC Particulars
The 450-horsepower (331-kilowatt) truck has DAF’s double-drive FAD rear bogie and a 10.8-litre 6-cylinder Paccar MX-11 engine. The XDC is Euro 6-compliant and generates 1,950 newton-metres (1,438 pounds-foot) of maximum torque at 900 to 1,125 rpm. The exterior of the XDC has a large approach angle, high ground clearance, a 3-piece steel bumper, black grille strips, and a steel radiator protection plate.
“I’m thrilled with the reaction from our drivers,” says Managing Director Rory Holbrook. “They’re over the moon with them, in fact. Drivers tell me the XDC is a significant upgrade on previous CF models, with much better visibility, better driving characteristics, and far more comfort in the Sleeper Cab. I’m looking forward to an uptick in productivity, too.”
