Recycling and waste management company Powerday recently added two new Volvo FE Electric skip loaders to its fleet to serve on routes across London and the southeast. Powerday expects the electric trucks to reduce the firm’s carbon emissions by an estimated 30 tonnes per year.
“In line with our net-zero roadmap, adopting these electric skip loaders into our fleet shows our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint and contributing to cleaner air and environment in London,” says Powerday CEO Edward Crossan. “By investing in electric skip loaders, we lead the charge towards cleaner, greener solutions.”
About The Volvo FE Electric
The FE Electric has a 2-speed transmission, a traction control system designed to maintain safe operation on slippery surfaces, and multiple drive modes to adjust the truck’s performance, comfort, and energy usage levels. The truck’s four batteries provide a range of around 190 kilometres (118 miles) and can recharge in 2.3 hours with the 150-kilowatt DC charger Powerday installed at its Willesden Junction site.
Powerday’s electric trucks are each built on a 4,100-millimetre (161-inch) wheelbase with full air suspension and equipped with Hyva skip loader bodywork with electric power take-off (PTO). The day cab Powerday selected also has full air suspension and an additional lower passenger door window for better visibility on busy London streets.
The trucks also have safety features such as Volvo’s Electronic Stability Control to reduce rollovers, Adaptive Cruise Control with automatic emergency, and Lane Keeping Support alerts to help drivers on the road.
