With the 100,000th Man TGE expected to roll off the production line soon, the manufacturer took a moment to reflect on recent increases in TGE sales. “The year 2022 was marked by disruptions in the supply chain due to the Ukraine war, raw material bottlenecks, and the semiconductor crisis. As a result, we were unable to produce as many TGEs as were in demand,” says Man Truck & Bus Head of Sales, Daniel Holbein. “This situation is now gradually dissolving, and our order book is fuller than ever. That is why we expect a significant jump in sales in 2023 and will thus sell more TGEs than ever before.”
TGE Range Evolves
Man recently added a rear-wheel-drive TGE with an automatic transmission, which the company says provides a more suitable option for 3.5-tonne (3.85-U.S.-ton) TGE vehicles with bodies due to the load distribution shifting toward the rear axle. Man also updated its TGE range to include a high-roof camper van with greater height in motorhome configurations. In 2022, Man says it sold over 3,500 TGEs with smart all-wheel drive, an option that was popular among camping, construction, and emergency vehicles. A permanent all-wheel-drive TGE 4x4 will also be available with 4.0 and 5.5 t (4.4 and 6 U.S. t) gross vehicle weights expected in Q3 2023.
A Wide Array Of Options
The MAN TGE is available as a chassis cab, crew cab, combi van, or panel van. Engines produce 100 to 174 horsepower (75 to 130 kilowatts) and from 300 to 410 newton-metres (221 to 302 pounds-foot) of torque. They are available with 6-speed manual gearboxes and 8-speed automatics on many models. There is also an electric version available with a 100-kW motor that produces up to 290 N-m of torque. Depending on the exact configuration, TGEs are available with front-wheel, rear-wheel, all-wheel, smart all-wheel, or electric drive.
