Man Truck & Bus recently announced that new pedestrian and cyclist detection technology is now available to help drivers watch out for road users who could move into areas where they could easily be missed. The Front Detection system is just one of the latest safety features from Man along with traffic sign recognition, a tyre pressure indicator, and electronic semi-mounting. Also new are the PredictiveDrive function to increase fuel efficiency and the PowerMatic transmission for the TGL and TGM models.
Sharing The Road Safely
Pedestrians and cyclists are incredibly vulnerable on the road. With little physical protection and the ability to get lost in a blind spot, careful attention is necessary when they are present. The system detects pedestrians and cyclists in front of the vehicle, or that may cross in front of the vehicle, when starting to move at speeds up to 10 km/h (6.2 mph) and alerts the driver via visual and audio warnings. The detection function is also integrated into Emergency Brake Assist and will automatically initiate emergency braking to a standstill when necessary.
The AttentionGuard warning system has been updated to not only evaluate the driver’s lane stability and steering but also can warn the driver before the traffic lane is crossed. The system displays the actual distance in metres to the vehicle in front to establish and maintain a safe distance. All the assistance functions can be accessed quickly and easily with a new button on the multifunction steering wheel or instrument panel.
Efficient & Accurate
Traffic sign recognition uses a real-time display of traffic and speed regulations to prevent the driver from overlooking any restrictions. The tyre pressure and temperature display provides data for connected trailers with corresponding sensors as well as the truck’s tyre pressure and temperature to reduce wear and risk of tyre bursts and fires from overheating.
The Reversing Motion System displays the view from the rear camera on the entertainment system display when the reverse gear is engaged or when manually activated. A new air suspension control makes semi-mounting operations easier with an ergonomic operating design for the cable-connected remote control next to the driver.
Air suspension functions can also be operated through the multifunction steering wheel and on-board menu. The system can also control the trailer’s air suspension to reduce lifting and lowering times.
Man’s PredictiveDrive plans the optimal speed curve for the topography from a speed of 30 km/h (19 mph) and selects the most fuel-efficient engine operation, factoring in gear ratio to make GPS cruise control more efficient.
The PowerMatic torque converter automatic transmission enables Man TGL and TGM trucks to shift gears more efficiently with wear-free starting and very high-acceleration for city operations such as fire brigades.
Multilingual Driving
For fleets who have drivers with different languages, a new voice recognition via driver card has English and German as the standard languages with 28 others available for free download with Man Now on the Rio platform.
