Tevva is a British electric vehicle manufacturer that recently began mass production of its 7.5-tonne (8.3-U.S.-ton) battery-electric truck in January. The electric truck, model number TEV75B, is also newly qualified for the UK’s low-emission vehicle plug-in grant. Thus far, only three vehicles in the N2 class (5- to 12-t; 5.5- to 13.2-U.S.-t) have been recognised as grant-eligible. Tevva is first British electric truck manufacturer to be eligible.
Above & Beyond
To earn eligibility, any N2 vehicle must travel at least 97 kilometres (60 miles) without producing tailpipe emissions, and the overall CO2 emissions figure must be 50% less than an equivalent vehicle carrying the same capacity. Tevva rates its 7.5-t battery-electric truck’s range at 227 km (141 miles) from one charge of its 105-kilowatt-hour battery. The TEV75B’s electric powertrain generates 192 kilowatts (257 horsepower) and 596 newton-metres (440 pounds-foot) of torque.
What’s Next
Tevva plans to follow-up its 7.5-t battery-electric truck with a 7.5-t hydrogen-electric truck. The hydrogen range extender increases the truck’s range to 570 km (354 m). Tevva is currently testing the hydrogen-electric truck, which recently completed a run from London to the Scottish border at Berwick-on-Tweed. On the return journey, the 7.5-tonner covered 563 km (350 m) without stopping for a recharge.
Similar to Tevva’s 7.5-t battery-electric truck, the 7.5-t hydrogen-electric truck boasts a leaf-spring front suspension and air-ride rear suspension. Overall length for both trucks is 8.7 metres (28.5 feet) and width is 2.2 m (7.2 ft), excluding mirrors. Tevva says the battery-electric model has a gross payload of 2,942 kilograms (6,486 pounds) and can accommodate 15 pallets. Gross payload on the hydrogen-electric truck is 2,718 kg (5,992 lbs).
