Oldham-based Kelvin Lord Group is a family-run company founded in 2006 that offers general haulage, trailer leasing, roadside assistance, and vehicle repair services throughout the UK. After years of running exclusively used trucks, the company purchased its first-ever new trucks, two Volvo FH 6x2 tractor units equipped with Globetrotter XL cabs. The new trucks join a fleet of 28 trucks, 23 of which are now Volvos.
“Though we have experience working with other manufacturers, time and time again we have found that Volvo’s product performance, reliability and fuel economy are second to none,” says Director Kelvin Lord. “We’re fully confident that these two new FHs will live up to this high reputation.”
Efficient Power
The FH 6x2 is powered by a D13K Step E engine that is Euro 6-compliant and produces 500 horsepower (368 kilowatts) and 2,500 newton-metres (1,844 pounds-foot) of peak torque. It also has an automated 12-speed I-Shift gearbox, which continuously monitors the truck’s speed, weight, road grade, and torque demand to time gearshifts. Kelvin Lord Group also specified the truck with Volvo’s I-See Predictive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning with Advanced Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning systems for enhanced safety.
Riding In Style & Comfort
The FH has Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels and the Visibility+ package, which includes V-shaped LED headlamps that adapt to ambient light conditions, electrically heated and operated main and wide-angle mirrors, and rain-sensing windscreen wipers. The spacious Globetrotter XL cab has a 33-litre (1.16 cubic-foot) refrigerator, a microwave, and a coffee maker. Kelvin Lord Group added the Volvo Drive++ package, which has full leather upholstery, dual armrests for both seats, and an adjustable steering wheel with neck tilt. The company also opted for the single bed Living+ package with a lower bunk with a 50-millimetre (2-inch)-thick mattress topper and a luxury sleeper control panel. Volvo’s Media package with navigation has also been added, which includes a 12-inch fully dynamic instrument cluster and a secondary colour information display.
“Our drivers all put in their fair share of hard graft and then some, so it’s only right they are given the right tools to make their lives easier,” says Lord. “Moving forward, Volvo will remain our first port of call for any new vehicles we’re looking to take onboard.”
