Event transport supplier FCL Event Logistics has added three new Dry Liner semitrailers from Krone Trailer UK that it’s using to transport sound and lighting equipment and other high-value items for clients to events, exhibits, conferences, and festivals in the UK and Europe. The Thatcham-based firm purchased two Dry Liner STG box trailers and one Dry Liner STP, which boasts a unique exterior paint job. The firm says it purchased the trailers to meet increased demand from a growing list of clients.
“We painted one of our tractor units in a very distinctive metallic black for a client,” says FCL Logistics Manager Martin Cowie. “When the contract came to an end, the truck still had relatively low mileage, so we wanted to keep it in the fleet but needed a trailer to match it. Krone came up with the goods; they colour-matched the trailer to our truck.”
Built To Withstand Damage
FCL plans routes, books ferries, and prepares necessary documentation for clients from the telecommunications, broadcasting, sports, and catering industries. It has 30 trucks and 22 trailers in its fleet. The firm’s Dry Liners are based on a universal modular chassis with optimised welded assembly and a durable bulkhead connection. The semitrailers are equipped with features such as a raised front rail and tail lights mounted on a diagonally reinforced, protected rear end to stand up to potential damage.
“We have had Krone trailers from the day we started the business 13 years ago,” says Martin. “They are well-priced, and we find them very reliable. We did try trailers from another supplier but have moved back to Krone and are happy with the latest additions to our fleet. In fact, we have ordered another two. Overall, the service from Krone UK has always been good and spare parts are never a problem.”
The Dry Liner STG
Krone launched the Dry Liner STG last fall at the IAA Transportation trade show in Hannover. The trailer has a 39,000-kilogram (85,980-pound) permissible gross weight. The sidewalls are constructed of galvanised steel cassettes fitted with a full-surface keyhole system while the front wall is made of trapezium-shaped steel plates. The steel container doors use foam block lining to ensure optimal tightness.
The trailers’ sealed, waterproof 30-millimetre (1.2-inch) phenolic-coated plywood flooring has built-in lashing rings to secure cargo during transit. A lateral, double-walled forklift-collision protection system with bulk material drain is also in place. Plastic translucent roofing provides enhanced lighting, and an optional integrated beam is available to maximise the loading height through the rear doors.
