The Lion’s Intercity LE bus from Man Truck & Bus has become a popular model since its introduction in autumn 2021. It has also garnered a number of awards, including the iF design award in the “Product/Automobiles/Vehicles” category, Spain’s “Bus of the Year” award at the 2022 National Transport awards, the intercity bus category at the German ETM awards, and the sustainability award from Munich-based publisher Huss-Verlag. The bus is also a finalist for the Sustainable Bus Awards 2023. The award-winning design is now available in a city version with Man EfficientHybrid.
About The City Version
The City version will be offered in three lengths ranging from 12.44 to 14.46 metres (40.8 to 47.4 feet). The 12.44-m Lion’s Intercity LE 12 and 13.14-m Lion’s Intercity LE 13 will be available at the beginning of 2023 and the 14.46-m models will follow in 2024. The City version of the Lion’s Intercity LE has a platformless design in the low floor area, is optimised for standing, and can carry up to 107 passengers. The low-entry design is more cost-effective than low-floor technology and the buses offer modern ceiling handrails and optionally height-adjusted luggage racks in either open or closed variants. The City version has three seat options with different finishes and upholstery. The Man City Comfort seat with lap belt is also available as an option. The bus features double-leaf inward-swinging front and centre doors.
A Safer Ride
The raised rear section seats slope gradually upwards for theatre-style seating similar to premium coaches. The interior is equipped with direct LED lighting for even illumination. Two air-conditioning systems with cooling capacities of 32 and 33 kilowatts are available as well as a ventilation system with antiviral interior air filters. The driver’s area can also be partitioned with single-pane safety glass or polycarbonate.
The driver’s seat is raised 120 millimetres (4.7 inches) compared to a purely low-floor bus to put the driver at the passenger’s eye level when seated. The ergonomic cockpit features an adjustable lower section and steering wheel with a user-friendly layout of instruments and switches. The bus has a high-resolution 4-in. colour display as standard with an improved stop menu display for easier reading. Mirrors are attached to a tubular frame to provide the best views of the rear and side and are available with our without a front-end observation mirror and separate school bus mirror at door one.
Operators have the option to add Man’s camera-based OptiView mirror-replacement system. OptiView eliminates blind spots and improves visibility at night and in inclement weather. A high-resolution monitor is placed to be visible even during passenger boarding and combined with camera-based pedestrian detection during turns, provides enhanced safety in narrow, inner-city areas.
