After nine years of services, D Hughes Demolition decided it was time to replace its Volvo FMX 500 with a new truck to carry out duties like moving stone and cobble from the company’s stone yard. Its replacement is remarkably similar: a Volvo FMX 420 in the firm’s striking crimson pearl livery.
“We did look at what other manufacturers were doing when considering a replacement but having experienced Volvo’s reliability and performance first-hand for so long, we didn’t want to go with anything else,” says D Hughes Demolition Director Ryan Hughes. “We are looking forward to seeing what the new model FMX can do.”
Quick Turnaround Time
D Hughes has worked with Thomas Hardie Commercials and Customer Relations Manager Paul McNichols for a long time, and this working relationship continued to improve with the new Volvo FMX 420.
“Over the years, we have always received great service from Paul and the team at Thomas Hardie,” explains Hughes. “They didn’t disappoint again this time and, thanks to a cancelled order, were able to get us a truck within just a few months, tailored to our specification. It certainly looks the part.”
FMX To Earn Its Pay
Volvo offers the FMX with D11K or D13K engines with power ratings from 330 to 540 horsepower (243 to 397 kilowatts) and six cab sizes from low to crew. D Hughes’ new Volvo FMX 420 is equipped with a 420-HP (309-kW) DK13 engine and features a day cab with anti-slip footsteps and Volvo’s new digital dashboard. A Hiab Multilift hook loader body is mounted to the 8x4 rigid’s chassis.
“It’s going to be a real workhorse for us,” says Hughes. “We’ve no firm estimate as to how many miles it will eventually do, but we’re very confident that it will more than earn its pay, wherever our work takes us.”
