FH Warden of Birmingham works on a range of fabrication and manufacturing projects, including supplying steel sheets and plates in standard and custom sizes as well as steel offcuts, serving customers nationwide. Many of its deliveries are contained within a 10-mile radius of its headquarters in Saltley, which is a heavily built-up area. To meet its hauling needs, the steel stockholder needed a truck agile enough to move through the city that could handle a large payload. The firm settled on a new 7.5-tonne (8.26-U.S.-ton) Fuso Canter 7C15 for its carrying capacity and easy turning.
“It’s all about payload,” says Dave Hughes, director of FH Warden. “We can get nearly 4 tonnes on the back of this truck. That’s the best part of a full tonne more than you’d achieve with a conventional 7.5-tonner.
“We’re working on congested streets and have to access some pretty tight spots,” continues Hughes. “The Canter’s compact footprint and very tight turning circle make it extremely manoeuvrable, which is another big advantage.”
The new truck marks the third Canter in FH Warden’s fleet.
About The Fuso Canter 7C15
The 7.5-tonne Canter has a new compact exhaust system that meets Euro 6 Step E emissions standards. The truck is powered by a 150-horsepower (110-kilowatt), 3-litre common-rail turbodiesel engine with 370 newton-metres (273 pounds-foot) of torque. It is also equipped with a Duonic dual-clutch automated manual transmission. The redesigned cab has improved insulation for a quieter interior and reinforced rear underrun protection to minimise impact in the event of an accident. FH Warden’s Canter is fitted with a 7-metre (23-foot) platform body from Fred Smith & Sons in West Bromwich.
