Averaging around 7,500 drops per week, Henderson Foodservice trucks regularly deliver goods in difficult-to-manoeuvre locations. These tight spots include convenience stores and the forecourts of hotels, restaurants, and other customers in the hospitality sector. The deliveries are about to get much easier for Henderson Foodservice, which invested 1.9 million pounds to purchase 14 Renault D 4x2s and four D Wide 6x2s, trucks known for their tight turning circle and compact cabs.

“By year end, 70% of our fleet will be Renault Trucks,” says Henderson Foodservice Logistics Manager Gavin Hamill. “Drivers also comment on the ergonomics, they like that all the controls are easy to find and easy to access.”

    2022 Fleet Replacement Scheme

The 18 new Renault trucks, two of which have already arrived, all feature refrigerated box bodies by Lifford Coachworks. Henderson Foodservice spec’d the four 26-tonne (28.7-U.S.-ton) D Wide 280 trucks with fuel-efficient 280-horsepower (206-kilowatt) engines that produce 1,050 newton-metres (774 pounds-foot) of torque. The D Wide trucks also feature Renault’s Optidriver AT 2412F gearbox with automatic clutch, which includes optimised gearshifts utilising Renault’s Fuel Eco technology.

“Fuel economy is something we always keep a close eye on, especially in the current climate with rising oil costs, and there’s a lot of urban driving around the city as well as rural, so it’s mix and match, but they’re performing well,” says Hamill.

    Designed To Distribute

The D Wide is part of Renault Trucks’ Distribution category of rigids and tractor units also available in D-, D Wide Z.E.-, and D Z.E.-series models. The trucks are a good fit for all kinds of applications, from controlled temperature transport delivery like Henderson Foodservice to household and industrial waste collection, cleaning and sanitary services, firefighting and emergency services, parcel services, and vehicle transport.

D Wide trucks are available in diesel-powered versions as well as battery-electric variants and still others powered by biofuel, compressed natural gas (CNG), and XTL synthetic fuel. They’re available in day, global, night and day, and sleeper cab options. D Wide models are available with gross combination weights (GCWs) ranging from 18 to 26 t (19.8 to 28.7 U.S. t) and gross vehicle weights (GVWs) from 21.5 to 50 t (23.7 to 55.1 U.S. t).
