The family-owned Bartrum Group provides a range of freight services, including hauling palletised loads throughout the UK as a member of the Pallet-Track Network. The firm’s recent acquisition of six new high-volume SDC Longer Semi-Trailer (LST) Curtainsiders increase its delivery capacity by eight pallets per load, for a dramatic increase in efficiency and profitability. Environmental sustainability was another key factor in The Bartrum Group’s selection of the 15.65-metre (51.3-foot) longer curtainsiders.
“We are committed to providing the most efficient service to our customers and Bartrum’s latest delivery of high-volume double-deck Curtainsiders reflects this,” says Managing Director Robert Bartrum. “The new double-decks have helped us to achieve fuel savings and offer the most competitive service to customers.”
Double-Deck Trailers
SDC fitted the LST Curtainsider trailers with its fuel-saving FS1 sloping roof to minimise drag, as well as LED lighting to reduce energy usage. The wraparound rear curtain allows the new trailers to be loaded from a clear side opening, so operators don’t need to move the curtain at each stop. The second deck and 15.65-m length, meanwhile, increase operational efficiency.
“We worked with Robert and the team to provide a premium specification that increases pallet capacity and incorporates our unique FS1 aerodynamic design providing further fuel and environmental savings,” says SDC Trailers UK Sales Manager Matt Kerrison.
LST Curtainsider Options
SDC’s LST Curtainsiders are available in lengths from 14.6 to 15.65 m (47.9 to 51.3 ft), allowing hauliers to transport 30 standard UK pallets in one trip. The Bartrum Group selected a tri-axle configuration for its new LST Curtainsider trailers, and SDC indicates the range can accommodate a rear steer axle with a self-steer or command-steer system. SDC offers the trailers in both step-frame and straight-frame designs.
