North Yorkshire haulier Dowse of Richmond runs an all-Mercedes-Benz fleet, and its latest 26-tonne (28.7-U.S.-ton) Actros is replacing a 26-t six-wheeler that logged more than 1.6 million kilometres (over a million miles) during its 10 years on the job.
“That toughness and durability is what we’ve come to expect from Mercedes-Benz, which is why we keep coming back for more,” says Co-Director Lou Dowse. “It allows us to run our fleet with optimum efficiency and guarantee a top-quality service to our own customers.”
New Tech, Same Reliability
Dowse of Richmond’s new addition is an Actros 2536 equipped with a curtainside body from Robinsons Truck Bodyworks. The firm spec’d the new Actros with a 10.7-litre, 360-horsepower (265-kilowatt) engine and a BigSpace cab, as well as a number of safety and efficiency features from Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking with pedestrian recognition to the Predictive Powertrain Control system with advanced fuel saving capabilities. The new Actros is also equipped with Mercedes-Benz MirrorCam technology.
“We embrace new technology where we can see a benefit,” says Dowse. “MirrorCam is a prime example—it provides the driver with better visibility to the rear, while removal of the large mirror housings has eliminated previous forward-facing blind spots.”
A Better Experience With Bell Truck & Van
Dowse of Richmond purchased the new Actros from local dealer Bell Truck & Van, extending the two firms’ long-term relationship.
“We’ve been buying our trucks from Bell Truck & Van for as long as I can remember,” Dowse says. “The close links between our two companies are built on trust—but that loyalty is not a given, it has been well-earned. Long experience has proved that Mercedes-Benz trucks provide reliable, cost-effective performance over a tough working life, while the level of customer service we receive from members of the dealer’s sales and workshop teams at all levels is exemplary.”
