Daf is now making an all-new, stronger, and easier-to-use version of its Daf Night Lock system available on New Generation Daf trucks. The manufacturer recently announced the system is available as a factory install on new XF, XG, and XG+ models and is further available as a retrofit system for the trucks at Daf dealerships. The system consists of a reinforced door structure, a reinforced interior handrail, and a sliding steel panel with an integrated rocker switch. Pressing the switch causes the panel to slide down and connect to the handrail, thus preventing the door from opening—and anyone from entering the cab—until the driver disengages the system.
Up To 150% Stronger
Daf says it was first to introduce a night lock system back in 2008. The manufacturer further asserts that testing has shown its new system can withstand forces up to 150% greater than similar available systems, able to thwart even an intruder using a crowbar. Night Lock is only intended for use when drivers are spending the night in the truck. A sticker on the exterior door handle lets those outside know that Night Lock is present. Inside, a bright red indicator verifies for drivers that the lock is engaged; disengaging the system is as simple as pressing the rocker switch.
The Daf New Generation
Daf introduced its New Generation long-distance trucks in November 2021. They feature a completely new platform and design with new aerodynamics that Daf says can lead to up to 10% fuel consumption savings. The models are available as 4x2 and 6x2 tractors and rigids, powered by PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines rated for 428 to 530 horsepower (315 to 390 kilowatts).
Daf recently announced it will launch a New Generation Daf XD series for distribution and vocational use in September at the IAA Transportation exhibition in Hanover in September. The truck will be based on the same platform as the XF, XG, and XG+.
