Norwegian food wholesaler ASKO’s goal is 100% emission-free transport before 2026. Toward that end, the company has a fleet of more than 60 electric trucks and works with Scania to optimise their routes. Scania provides ASKO with an overview of which routes are currently the best candidates and which ones will be viable for battery-electric vehicles in the future.
“Today, these electric trucks run on our distribution routes, primarily in and around cities but we are happy to see the next generation,” says ASKO Corporate Logistics Manager Marius Råstad. “They see that where they can use these trucks actually changes, and that they will be able to run them on longer-distance routes. We know we will have it, and we are looking forward to it.”
Planning For The Future
The wholesaler wants to continually increase not only the number of electric vehicles in its fleet, but also their operational hours. The next step for ASKO are operations outside of the capital region. Scania’s new-generation battery-electric trucks with regional hauling capabilities are available as 4x2 trailer tractors or 6x2 or 6x4 rigid trucks. All configurations deliver 410-kilowatt electric motors and 624-kilowatt-hour battery banks. Scania estimates that the regional battery-electric trucks offer a range of 320 kilometres (199 miles) with a 40-tonne (44-U.S.-ton) load. And with the maximum 64-t (70.5-U.S.-t) load, Scania estimates an operational range of 230 km (143 mi).
Scania Electric Trucks For Urban Transport
Scania offers a 300-kWh battery-electric truck with a range of up to 250 km (155 mi) on a single charge for operations looking for short- to medium-range transport options. The truck has a 60-kW power take-off (PTO) to provide continuous emission-free hydraulics and refrigeration unit operations. Scania says it delivers 295 kW of continuous power and 2,200 newton-metres (1,622 pounds-foot) of torque; there’s also a 165-kWh option that provides 230-kW peak propulsion and 1,300 N-m (959 lbf-ft) of continuous torque. Scania’s short- and medium-range battery-electric trucks are available in wheel configurations of 4x2, 6x2, and 6x4.
