It was only in November 2021 that DAF began production of its New Generation DAF lineup of long-distance trucks, which includes the XF, XG, and flagship XG+ models. Despite the relatively short amount of time that’s passed since then, DAF recently announced that it has completed production on the 10,000th truck from the lineup. The manufacturer says the feat makes the award-winning New Generation DAF its most successful introduction in its more than 90-year history.
“The milestone of 10,000 trucks produced not only represents the excellent qualities of the New Generation DAF trucks, but is also a testament to the over 10,000 dedicated employees at DAF, who are responsible for the design, the development, the production, and the marketing and aftersales of our award-winning trucks,” says DAF Trucks President Harry Wolters.
Accolades For A New Generation
Since the introduction of the New Generation DAF, which is based on an entirely new platform, industry experts and customers alike have embraced the lineup. In addition to the series being named the International Truck of the Year 2022, the XG+ was honored with the Best Diesel Tractor Unit award in the 2022 Fleet New Awards.
One of the most noteworthy aspects of the series is its up to 10% fuel consumption savings thanks to the trucks’ new aerodynamic design, which DAF says also results in greater driver comfort. DAF designed the New Generation range to fall in line with objectives of the new European Union Masses & Dimension regulations, which emphasise fuel efficiency, driver comfort, and traffic safety.
The New Generation DAF
New Generation DAF trucks are available as 4x2 and 6x2 tractors and rigids. The aforementioned aerodynamics improvements include such elements as a tapered cab with a flowing mounted windscreen and doors, and air intakes built into the front grille that provide the shortest path to the engine for cool air. The XG and XG+ also include distinctive, roof-mounted LED skylights as standard, as well as LED headlights with built-in cornering lights and daytime running lights.
The XG+ boasts the most interior space at 12.5 cubic metres (441 cubic feet). The XF and XG provide up to 2,075 millimetres (81.7 inches) of standing height in their cabs, while the XG+ has up to 2,195 mm (86.4 in.). All include a bunk that’s 2,220 mm (87.4 in.) long, but customers can opt for a mechanical or electrically adjustable DAF Relax Bed. An automatic temperature control system is included, with an option to upgrade to a fully automated climate control system. XG+ buyers can opt for a Park Airco system that allows for automatic cab interior cooling or heating, even when the truck’s engine is off. The trucks are available with PACCAR MX-11 and MX-13 engines, with power options ranging from 428 to 530 horsepower (315 to 390 kilowatts).
