The rigorous environmental regulations in Oslo, which strictly limit noise and emission impacts in the building and construction industry, has put Becker Entreprenør AS in an advantageous position to win bids. Becker’s brand-new Scania electric tipper truck with a hook lift provides the construction firm with a quiet, fossil-free way to handle infrastructure, landscaping, and all types of jobs in the Norwegian capital.
Ahead Of The Game
“We have great ambitions,” says founder Hans Erik Becker. “We want to change the construction industry as we know it.” Changing the industry starts with finding versatile machines that can work in all types of applications. The hook lift on Scania’s electric tipper truck, for instance, can be fitted to a crane, providing additional flexibility on the jobsite. Becker explains “This means we can do more with this truck, and not change between several vehicles since this is all-in-one,” he says.
Driving In A New Way
Driver Erik Liern first never thought he’d see the day when battery-electric power would be enough to operate a heavy-duty construction truck. “I’m fascinated by innovation. So when the opportunity came, I gave it a shot,” he says, and the driving experience has changed how he operates the truck. “I adapt how I drive, to optimise the use of the electric truck. I am calmer, and not as stressed as I used to be. This all adds up to a more fun working day.”
Liern now tries to earn the highest score possible with Scania’s driver coach feature. “I currently have a score of 83% on my driving, but of course I aim for 100%,” he says. “I am born and raised with Scania, and this truck gives me joy to keep on driving for many years to come. This is the future.”
