Long-Hauling Shortbread In Scotland: New Mercedes-Benz Actros Delivers Dean’s Of Huntly’s Trademark Product

Dean’s Of Huntly shortbread, known for its light and crumbly texture and handcrafted quality, can be found everywhere in Scotland, and is gaining popularity in England as well as throughout Europe. Dean’s has only one truck to deliver its delicacies across Scotland and to parts of England, and when it came time to replace an ageing 18-tonne (19.8-U.S.-ton) truck, Dean’s selected a new Mercedes-Benz Actros 1830 fitted with the StreamSpace sleeper cab. The new Actros will be driven by new recruit Mike Kelman, who is delighted with the truck’s high-end features.

“Mike will typically spend a couple of nights in the truck each week, and says it has plenty of space as well as being very easy and comfortable to drive,” says Dean’s Warehouse & Transport Team Leader Silas Woodward.

    Stylish Retail Distribution

Dean’s decked out the Actros with its traditional livery, down to the colour-coded bumper and across the curtain-side body. “We like the design of the Actros, which looks really good in our colours—branding is important to our business, so that’s a big plus,” says Woodward.

Inside the Actros, the upgraded interactive 12-inch instrument panel offers premium features, such as satellite navigation, that make the driver’s life easier. Dean’s Actros 1830 also features the Mercedes-Benz Multimedia Cockpit, which replaces the truck’s traditional switchgear with two tablet-style screens. The aerodynamic StreamSpace sleeper cab is a comfortable 2.3 metres (7.5 feet) wide.

    About The Truck

The new Actros 1830 is configured with a 7.7-litre, 300-horsepower (220-kilowatt) engine and an eight-speed PowerShift 3 automated manual transmission. BLS Truck & Van provided a demonstration unit for Dean’s, and the resulting configuration was chosen with the help of BLS Truck & Van sales executive Chris Dyer.

“First impressions of the dealer are entirely positive,” says Woodward. “I’ve every confidence Dyer’s Service and Parts colleagues will provide the aftersales support we need.”
