Schmitz Cargobull Wins New Customer CK Foods With S.KO COOL SMART Refrigerated Trailer

A food maker and distributor recently purchased its first semi-trailer from German manufacturer Schmitz Cargobull. The trailer is an S.KO COOL SMART model with a box body and a Carrier Transicold refrigeration unit.

CK Foods makes pizza cheese and frozen chicken products, which it distributes from its manufacturing sites in Hull and Bradford. It will pull the new Schmitz Cargobull reefer using Volvo FH tractors to transport its chilled and frozen food throughout the UK.

“Our business is growing and we needed a trailer that would be up to the job and able to meet our busy schedule,” says CK Foods Buyer Huzaifah Bhamji. “The trailer’s high payload is an added bonus as it has reduced the number of trips my drivers have to take, which in turn reduces our costs.”

    Efficient & Hygienic

The S.KO COOL SMART trailer comes with a new cool air distribution system for uniform temperature control. The efficient new system includes flexible, damage-resistant duct hoods to prevent impacts with the cargo from turning into downtime and uneven cooling.

Schmitz Cargobull uses its patented FERROPLAST material to make the trailer’s body panels. The shatter-proof, hygienic panels resist aging and don’t absorb moisture. The resulting box body is vapour diffusion-tight and energy-efficient. Its welded floor pan is liquid-tight and its attachments are flush-fitting to simplify correct trailer cleanout.

The S.KO COOL SMART also comes with Schmitz Cargobull’s standard TrailerConnect telematics system, which provides end-to-end documentation of the refrigeration chain, among other things. The wireless data link creates a transparent, comprehensive overview of the trailer’s whereabouts and internal temperatures throughout its travels.

CK Foods expects to use the new trailer five to seven days a week for a period of 10 years. The S.KO COOL SMART is covered by a full-service contract from Schmitz Cargobull.

“In my opinion, the quality of Schmitz Cargobull’s trailers is just unbeaten—they are the best in the industry,” Bhamji says. “On top of that, I can’t fault the Schmitz Cargobull team. They’ve been flexible to my business needs and their communication is excellent.”

    Options & Versatility

Schmitz Cargobull builds the S.KO COOL SMART on a strong, lightweight, and galvanised MODULOS chassis. It has bolted components for easy configurability. Multi-ride height air suspension is a standard feature.

The S.KO COOL SMART is available with internal box lengths of 13.4, 14.7, and 16.8 metres (44, 48.2, and 55.1 feet); widths of 2,460 or 2,490 millimetres (8.1 or 8.2 ft), and heights of 2,350 to 3,050 mm (7.7 to 10 ft). It has room for 33, 36, or 41 Euro pallets or 26 ISO pallets.

The interior of the box body has a modular system for flexible configuration with a multifunctional floor, a double-decker system, and load-securing rails. A mobile partition and additional roof evaporator can be added for multiple temperature zones within the trailer. An optional temperature printer can produce hard copies of the standard digital temperature recorder’s output.

Schmitz Cargobull offers optional equipment packages for the refrigerated S.KO COOL SMART to haul pharmaceuticals, as well as for cross-border, ferry, and multimodal combined transport via ship, rail, and/or road.
