London-based easyStorage, a storage and moving solutions provider locations throughout the UK, was looking to revamp its transport fleet when it met with A M Philip Trucktech in Glasgow, Scotland, while launching a new location in the area. The meeting led to an introduction to Tekbo, a commercial bodybuilding specialist, which in turn led to the acquisition of 27 custom 7.2-tonne (7.9-U.S.-ton) GVW IVECO Daily trucks, resplendent in easyStorage’s bright orange livery. Another dozen of the 7-tonners are currently in build and eight more are on order.
About The IVECO Daily
Daily trucks in the easyStorage fleet conform to the firm’s patented design, consisting of an IVECO Daily 72C18HA8P chassis cab, a box body with kerbside loading doors, and a rear bulkhead for tool storage. The body has pull-out platforms, ramps, and supports for loading and unloading and can hold three of the company’s easyPod packing crates which can each weigh around 1 tonne when loaded but are still well below the Daily’s max load of 4.9 t (5.4 U.S. t). The vehicle is also equipped with pneumatic rear suspension, extra-long armed mirrors, and a 360-degree camera system with an in-cab display. The cab has a 7-inch touchscreen Hi-Connect infotainment system with Bluetooth, smartphone mirroring DAB, and a navigation system set to factor the vehicle’s size and weight into route planning. The company expects each truck to run 30,000 miles each year with a five-year replacement cycle.
"We've built a great relationship across all parties and enjoy the willingness of IVECO, A M Phillip, and Tekbo to collaborate in continual innovation,” says easyStorage CEO Tim Slesinger. “The drivers appreciate the vehicles and they have proved themselves against the brief, providing us with the look and feel, running costs, and manoeuvrability of a van, but with all the guts of a truck. We look forward to taking this to the next level when the e-Daily is launched."
Award-Winning Performance
The bespoke trucks helped easyStorage win the delivery sector and overall awards at IVECO’s first-ever Daily Mission Awards in November 2021. The company won for demonstrating the Daily 7-tonne’s unique skillset as well as for its work with the Princes Trust and other community support during the pandemic. The fleet of then 12 Daily vehicles helped Fresh Food for the Front Line, a charity co-founded by Slesinger, to deliver food boxes from local farmers and producers that were filled to represent one person’s weekly shop to staff in hospitals and care homes around London, Slough, and Swindon. The easyStorage staff spent 512 hours making deliveries from March to July 2020, delivering 3,500 weekly shops at a rate of as many as 200 at a time.
