The first-ever Volvo truck for Bradford-based Ladyroyd Garage is quickly earning acclaim with the company’s drivers. “They have been particularly impressed with the ease of access into the crew cab; the steps offer excellent grip in all weathers, making it a lot easier for passengers who might not be used to getting into a truck,” explains David Thornes, owner of Ladyroyd Garage. “Plus, the FL’s practicality and good all-round visibility have made it a firm favourite amongst our team.”
Big Vehicles Are No Problem
Ladyroyd Garage’s new Volvo FL is a 4x2 rigid featuring a rear air suspension, Powertec bodywork, and a factory-fitted power take-off (PTO). And when compared to the fleet’s 7.5-tonne (8.26-U.S.-ton) trucks, the 16-t (17.6-U.S.-t) Volvo FL and its 280-horsepower (206-kilowatt) D8K engine offer the power Ladyroyd Garage needs when recovering larger vehicles.
“Before committing to Volvo, we did look closely at rival marques, but none of them could really compete,” Thornes says. “We knew that with Volvo we’d be buying a premium-brand truck we could count on—it was certainly a step up for the fleet. We had also heard very good things about the FL in terms of reliability and payload.”
Comfort For Driver & Passengers
In configuring the new Volvo FL, Ladyroyd Garage selected a four-door, six-seat crew cab. Drivers enjoy the air-suspended and heated seat, and the air conditioning provides additional comfort for passengers who might need to travel with their recovered vehicle. With an expected travel of between 30,000 to 50,000 kilometres (18,641 to 31,066 miles) per year, the comfort enhancements play a key role in fitting the needs of drivers and the business.
