Northampton-based WT Warehouse & Transport Solutions’ exclusive Mercedes-Benz Actros Edition 2 isn’t the company’s first limited-production truck from the manufacturer. In fact, the family-owned transport company has purchased all three of Mercedes’ special-edition Actros models from the past four years. WT’s pre-owned Actros 2553 Edition 2 tractor unit with Brilliant Silver metallic paint and 530 horsepower (390 kilowatts) was a demonstrator truck with a little more than 6,000 miles.
“We’ve always bought low-mileage, premium-quality, Approved Used Mercedes-Benz vehicles because they represent such outstanding value for money,” says co-Director Warren Tattersall. WT bought its Actros Edition 2 from dealer City West Commercials.
The Actros Edition 2
Mercedes-Benz has made just 400 Actros Edition 2 models, and of those only a small number have surfaced in the UK. WT’s has a Moonstone Grey grille and sun visor with four additional LED headlights and another three behind the cab, as well as an illuminated dark chrome three-pointed star badge set into the grille. The Edition 2 has gloss-black trim, stainless-steel entrance steps, and a chassis frame cover. It is powered by a 12.8-litre, inline six-cylinder engine.
Inside the Edition 2’s GigaSpace cabin is an aluminium dashboard badge which reads “One of 400.” The driver can select from eight colours of ambient ceiling lighting. The cab has a sliding, tilting sunroof; a suspended driver’s seat; and a 900-millimetre (35.4-inch)-wide comfort mattress with its own topper. The driver’s Multimedia Cockpit dual-screen digital dashboard has an upgraded, 12-in. instrument panel.
Mercedes equips the Actros Edition 2 with Driving, Comfort, Media, Stowage, and Safety and Sight Packages, along with ExtraLine design details and lighting. Other features including satellite navigation, Proximity Control Assist technology, bi-xenon headlights with cleaners, and LED taillights.
Actros trucks come factory-equipped with technologies such as the Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking system and MirrorCam, which replaces the side mirrors with compact, roof-mounted cameras. The latter can reduce fuel usage as much as 1.5% by improving the aerodynamics of the truck. The Actros also gets up to 5% better fuel economy with the updated Predictive Powertrain Control, which manages gear changes using 3D road maps and satellite positioning data.
Triple Threat
WT Warehouse & Transport Solutions’ other limited-run Actros trucks include a 625-HP (460-kW) Actros Edition 1 in High-Tech Silver metallic and a 530-HP (390-kW) Actros 1 in Obsidian black metallic. Both have GigaSpace cabs. Each of the special-edition trio has a ‘Working Together’ strapline and is assigned to custom contracts with VIP clients.
“The new technology in which we’ve been investing does translate into less downtime and better fuel-efficiency,” says Tattersall. “Just as importantly, though, I’ll do whatever I can to keep our best drivers happy. So providing them with top-quality equipment—trucks they really want to drive—is crucial. In that respect these three fantastic vehicles, but particularly the stunning Edition 2, tick all the boxes.”
Find The Right Mercedes-Benz
WT Warehouse & Transport Solutions works for TPN, or The Pallet Network, on the Brackmills Industrial Estate. Tattersall is looking ahead to 2022, when WT will take delivery of four new 18-tonne (19.8-U.S.-ton) Actros, a 12-t (13.2-U.S. t) Atego, and a 7.5-t (8.3-U.S. t) FUSO Canter, each with a curtainside body. In January, WT will also purchase an Actros 2548 with a BigSpace cab, another demonstrator model from City West Commercials.
