After investing in 40 of Schmitz Cargobull’s S.KO PACE SMART semi-trailers, Salford Van Hire has the honour of being the first operator in the UK to run the new semi-trailers.
“We are very proud to be the first logistics business in the UK to acquire these new S.KO PACE SMART semi-trailers which are perfectly suited to our needs,” says Contract & Fleet Engineering Director of Salford Van Hire, Steve McNally. “The fact they are manufactured in the UK is hugely beneficial both for lead times and cost, as well as reducing our environmental impact—which they will continue to do on a daily basis because of their lightweight construction.”
S.KO PACE SMART Design
The S.KO PACE SMART semi-trailer is constructed with STRUKTOPLAST panels, a lightweight body that allows the trailer to weigh around 600 kilograms (1,323 pounds) less than competitor models, according to Schmitz Cargobull. The hot-galvanised MODULOS chassis features a 10-year warranty against rust-through, while the ROTOS axle unit is supported by a 1 million-kilometre (621,371-mile) or six-year warranty. Schmitz Cargobull’s TrailerConnect integrated telematics system is onboard to help Salford Van Hire manage its fleet.
A Longtime Customer
Around half of Salford Van Hire’s 1,800-strong dry freight fleet consists of trailers supplied by Schmitz Cargobull, and the two companies have been working together for more than 10 years. Salford Van Hire’s confidence and experience with the previous semi-trailers meant they had no reservations when going with the new S.KO PACE SMART trailers, which they ordered without even a trial run.
“We have always been impressed by the quality, design, and build of Schmitz Cargobull trailers, so we were completely confident in our choice to be the first to run S.KO PACE SMART trailers,” McNally says. “Now we have them, they are already exceeding our expectations.”
