Springbridge Direct Gets A New IVECO X-WAY Decked Out With PALFINGER Crane For Turf, Pallet & Bulk Bag Delivery

Turf and aggregates supplier Springbridge Direct is replacing a handful of ageing IVECO Trakkers with new X-WAY rigids that provide easier access to delivery locations while still maximising payload on heavier jobs. The first of the new X-WAYs boasts a modified flatbed with a rear-mounted PALFINGER PK.501 SLD5 crane. The 8x2x6 rigids are an upgrade over the Buck-based supplier’s 8x4 tipper-grabs in that drivers can pneumatically lift the rearmost steering axle, reducing wear on light deliveries and giving the trucks better manoeuvrability.

    On & Off Road

IVECO’s X-WAY is equipped to drive on the highway, but it’s also rugged enough to make last-mile deliveries with ease. Springbridge Direct’s new AD350X46Y/PS ON model features IVECO’s 11.1-litre, 460-horsepower (343-kilowatt) CURSOR 11 engine and a hydraulic ZF NH/4C power take-off for the auxiliary body components. When operating in the city, the X-WAY benefits from FORS Gold accreditation as well as pedestrian safety equipment like illuminated cyclist warning boards, audible turn warnings, and 360-degree cameras. The X-Way’s hauling capability is also critical for the turf and aggregate supplier.

“Our latest IVECO X-WAY looks very smart and has a fantastic payload too, near-on 20 tonnes,” says Springbridge Operations Director John Keating.

    The New X-Way Range

IVECO’s new X-WAY is available with 8.7-, 11.1-. and 12.9-L diesel engines rated for 330 to 570 HP (246 to 425 kW) and 1,300 to 2,500 newton-metres (959 to 1,844 pounds-foot) of torque, as well as a 12.9-L natural gas engine that generates 460 HP and 2,000 N-m (1,475 lbf-ft) of torque. The ON configuration specified by Springbridge Direct features a reinforced chassis to support heavy-duty demands when hauling aggregate over the road. IVECO also makes ON+ and OFF versions designed to spend more time off-road; each has progressively higher approach angles and ground clearance. Trucks with IVECO’s HI-TRACTION hydrostatic drive system can switch to all-wheel drive as needed.
