IVECO showed off its most recent version of its X-WAY truck at the Tip-Ex and Tank-Ex show in Yorkshire from 30 September to 2 October. The X-WAY is tough enough for light off-road missions such as last-mile construction site deliveries, yet comfortable and drivable enough for the highway. Major configurations cover mixer, tipper, hook lifter, skip loader, crane and platform, tipper semi-trailer, timber, and gully cleaner duties.
The IVECO X-WAY
IVECO’s new X-WAY is available with 8.7-, 11.1-. and 12.9-litre diesel engines with 330 to 570 horsepower (246 to 425 kilowatts) and 1,400 to 2,500 newton-metres (1,033 to 1,844 pounds-foot) of torque. These use a HI-SCR (selective catalytic reduction) exhaust aftertreatment system to meet the Euro 6d emissions standard. The light off-road truck is also available with a 12.9-litre natural gas engine with 460 HP (343 kW) and 2,000 N-m (1,475 lbf-ft) of torque.
The X-WAY‘s 2.3- to 2.5-metre (7.5- to 8.2-foot)-wide cabin options include the AS sleeper cab, the AT sleeper with a low or medium roof, and the AD short cab with a low roof. The truck is available with 12- and 16-speed manual and automated transmissions. The HI-TRONIX automated gearbox includes a Rocking Mode, Off-Road Mode, and Creeping Mode for navigating sites away from the pavement.
The X-WAY’s ON configuration utilises a reinforced chassis for on-road homologation. IVECO also makes ON+ and OFF versions designed to spend more time off-road; each has progressively higher approach angles and greater ground clearance. Trucks with IVECO’s HI-TRACTION hydrostatic drive system can switch to all-wheel drive as needed.
X-WAY Trucks At Tip-Ex
One of the two X-WAYs IVECO brought to the Tip-Ex show is a 32-tonne (35.3-U.S.-ton) model AD360X42Z/P with the OFF off-road configuration and an approach angle of more than 25 degrees. The 8x4 chassis is set up with a Boweld MightyLite HD GrabMaster tipper-grab body, Edbro UB16 tipping gear, and a PALFINGER Epsilon Classic crane. Two 8-t (8.8-U.S.-t) front axles and a 21-t (23-U.S.-t) dual-drive rear bogie support the 5,020-millimetre (197.6-inch) wheelbase chassis.
This X-WAY is powered by a diesel engine with 420-HP (313-kW) and 2,000 N-m of torque. Its AD day cab is 2.3 m (7.5 ft) wide and has a low roof, with a full LED lighting package that includes cornering lights. The cabin has an air suspension seat, a leather steering wheel, heated side mirrors, and a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System. A 7-in. touchscreen on a swivel supports smartphone mirroring, Bluetooth, USB, DAB digital radio, TomTom LIVE navigation, and over-the-air software updates.
The other X-WAY at Tip-Ex is an AS360X51Z ON+ model owned by Jab Haulage. It’s equipped with a high-sided V Runner insulated tarmac tipper body from Swadlincote Aluminium & Welding. The truck’s ON+ setup has a bit less ground clearance than the off-road OFF configuration, allowing up to 72 mm (2.83 in.) of axle drop. The truck’s low-roof AS sleeper cab is 2.5 m wide and has a T-shaped bunk, a wrap-around dashboard, and a transmission tunnel just 95 mm (3.74 in.) high.
IVECO is also displaying a 3.5-t (3.86-U.S.-t) Daily Driveaway Arboriculture Tipper at the show.
