WHC Hire Services recently acquired its first Volvo FE 4x2 rigid trucks for delivery of its large plant equipment to contractors, civil engineers, groundwork firms, builders, and other commercial clients. The 18-tonne (19.8-U.S.-ton) FEs with beavertail bodies replaced smaller trucks from a competing manufacturer and allow the company to transport larger equipment, such as excavators, from its Tewkesbury, Cotswolds, and Worcester depots.
About The Volvo FE
The FEs will travel up to 60,000 kilometres (37,300 miles) per year to deliver machinery to customers in the local area. The trucks have Volvo’s I-Shift gearbox and are powered by Volvo’s D8K diesel engine which produces up to 320 horsepower (239 kilowatts) and 1,200 newton-metres (885 pounds-foot) of torque. For increased safety and visibility, the truck has Volvo’s factory-fitted lower kerb window on the passenger door. Drivers ride in comfort in the spacious air-conditioned cab with a DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity.
“We update our trucks every five years, so when our fleet was up for renewal, the majority of our drivers recommended Volvo,” says WHC Hire Services Depot Manager Jack Clutterbuck. “Reliability and price points were a big deciding factor for us, and we are certainly impressed. These are the first Volvos we’ve had and so far, they have been a breeze to operate, with straightforward controls and excellent comfort.”
WHC Hire Services has six other trucks that will be due for renewal in the next couple years and the company already plans for those trucks to be replaced with Volvo.
