Bristol-based Fountain Timber recently replaced an 11-year-old Isuzu 7.5-tonne (8.26-U.S.-ton) rigid with a brand-new 11-t (12.1-U.S.-t) Isuzu F110.240 (E) equipped with a bespoke Britt Tip tipper body. Next month, Fountain Timber will receive a second 11-t Isuzu fitted with a dropside body and rear-mounted Fassi crane. The upcoming specialty Isuzu truck is earmarked to handle bagged timber deliveries that require offloading at customers’ premises.
“Isuzu are really multi-purpose vehicles, ideally suited to our distribution fleet requirements and have given us excellent service in the past,” says Fountain Timber Operations Manager Chris Goldstone. “Naturally, we would love to get another 10-plus years out of both these new 11-t Isuzus.”
Load Flexibility
The Isuzu F110.240 (E) with the Britt Tip tipper body is specified for delivering biomass woodchips and processed bark. The high-sided tipper body is a great fit for delivering mulch, and Fountain Timber gains additional flexibility from Britt Tip’s removable high body sides. With the sides removed, the Isuzu serves as a flatbed truck and can deliver larger items, such as square-sawn timber processed at Fountain Timber’s saw mill.
Performance You Can Count On
This 4x2 rigid chassis cab features twin rear wheels, and Isuzu offers it with either a manual transmission or an Easyshift automated transmission (denoted by the “E” in the model designation). The 11-tonner is powered by an 4HK1E6H-E engine that generates 237 horsepower (177 kilowatts) at 2,600 rpm.
“Our reliance on Isuzu trucks for customer deliveries is firmly based on their excellent flexibility and reliable performance over many years, unrivalled payload, whilst not forgetting a proven durable driveline designed for longevity,” Goldstone says.
