Other firms working on demolition sites with Frater Urban Quarry won’t have any trouble spotting the newly launched raw material-processing and supplier specialist’s new 8X4 Mercedes-Benz Arocs 3240 tipper. After all, with an attention-grabbing, funky full-wrap livery from Freestyle Designs of Bath described as an “explosion of colour,” Frater Urban Quarry’s new Arocs eight-wheeler is nearly impossible to miss.
Flashy & Powerful
A flashy exterior isn’t all there is to like about Frater Urban Quarry’s new Arocs, supplied by City West Commercials of Bristol and covered by a Mercedes-Benz Complete Service Contract. In addition to a ClassicSpace M-cab, the truck is spec’d with Mercedes-Benz’s MirrorCam technology and a twin-display multimedia cockpit dashboard, as well as a 10.7-litre, six-cylinder engine rated for 394 horsepower (290 kilowatts).
Other features include a steel tipping body, a PM axle-weighing system from Boweld Truck Bodies, and set of Brigade safety cameras installed by City West Commercials. Those features will come in handy for handling the premium aggregates that Frater Urban Quarry recycles and processes from demolition waste and then supplies to the construction industry and homeowners.
Right Truck, Right Time
Frater Urban Quarry’s Arocs 3240 collects waste within a 48.2-kilometre (30-mile) radius of Bristol before transporting it to Frater’s Bedminster headquarters for processing. The truck is the first Mercedes-Benz for both Frater Urban Quarry and its owner, Wring Group, which provides demolition, dismantling, scaffolding, asbestos removal, waste management, and other services. Simon Holdom, Frater Urban Quarry plant and logistics manager, says the company is convinced it’s well-positioned for solid growth.
“The home improvement sector is booming and, while others are already providing a similar service, they are let down by their poor product quality,” Holdom says. “We, by contrast, are able to offer a superior standard of recycled aggregate. We’d trialed a couple of City West Commercials’ demonstrators previously. They had done well, but we were never in a position to press the button and order one. However, the launch of our new venture coincided with some aftersales issues we were having with our established chassis supplier, while the Arocs was competitively priced, built, prepped, and ready to go. Essentially, it was the right truck at the right time.”
