The fully-electric Fiat E-Ducato is a light commercial van with an industry-first parallel battery architecture; this multi-battery configuration with Recovery Mode allows the E-Ducato to continue working even if one of the battery modules fails. Fiat is offering the new E-Ducato with either three 47-kilowatt-hour battery modules or five 79-kWh modules. Depending on load and battery configuration, Fiat says the E-Ducato’s range falls somewhere between 182 and 370 kilometres (113 to 230 miles).
An Unconventional Approach
Fiat says that the E-Ducato parallel battery architecture constantly draws current from each individual battery, so other modules are able to automatically pick up the slack if one of the batteries drops out. The E-Ducato presents owners with four electric charging options: standard, quick, quick + charge, and fast charge. The van’s smart-charge plug fits both AC and DC charging configurations, and its fully electric power makes it exempt from congestion and ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) charges.
Payload
The E-Ducato’s payload reaches 1,950 kilograms (4,300 pounds) with volumes that range from 10 to 17 cubic metres (353 to 600 cubic feet). Capacity and payload are similar to the internal combustion-powered Ducato.
