MacWilliam Demolition Limited, a Scottish demolition specialist, is increasing its focus on work further afield, and the expansion prompted the firm to purchase a Renault Trucks K520 with a day and night cab to allow the driver to overnight in the comfort of his vehicle rather than requiring a hotel. The K520 features a Palfinger T22 Hookloader lifting gear and is specified with Dura-Bright alloy wheels, Kelsa light bars, and air horns as the finishing touches.
Off-Road Power
The demolition specialist initially moved to Renault Trucks seven years ago, and the fleet now includes a selection of Renault Trucks Master vans, a few K430s, and the new K520. MacWilliam Demolition selected the K520 for the power and torque provided by its 13-litre engine: 520 horsepower (388 kilowatts) and 2,550 newton-metres (1,659 pounds-foot) of torque.
“The bigger engine on the K520 gives us extra power when fully loaded and on tricky off-road situations,” says Managing Director Craig MacWilliam. “For our particular application, the K is undoubtedly the best lorry; its higher ground clearance is unparalleled for off-road demolition work.”
Driver Comfort
MacWilliam Demolition specified the K520 with Renault’s Comfort Pack, Roadpad+, and Performance lower bunk and night heater. “Our drivers cover a fair few miles and they think the K is fantastic, they love the automated gearbox and Renault Trucks is their preferred manufacturer now,” says McWilliam. “Driver comfort is paramount in our vehicle selection and while the K is designed for durability, it doesn’t disappoint in the comfort stakes, either.”
