Powered by liquefied natural gas (LNG), 100 of IVECO’s S-WAY LNG trucks are helping Italian company Gruber Logistics revamp its fleet with alternative-fuel vehicles and more sustainable transport.
“Our objective is to have the most important fleet in Europe for sustainable transport by exploiting existing technologies and supporting innovation so that new zero-impact technologies can reach the market quickly,” says Gruber Logistics CEO Martin Gruber.
Why The S-WAY
The IVECO S-WAY LNG features technology designed to achieve a significant reduction in fuel consumption and pollution—cutting nitrogen dioxide emissions by 90% and particulate matter down by 95%. The sustainable trucks also slash carbon dioxide emissions by 95% when comparing the diesel equivalents to LNG trucks using biomethane fuel.
“At IVECO, we are honoured to be able to contribute to the group's ambitious goals for sustainable growth with a product that combines cutting-edge technology, performance, and care for the environment,” says IVECO Brand Europe Director Carmelo Impelluso.
Attention To Design
The exterior design of the IVECO S-WAY reduces air resistance, improving aerodynamics to increase fuel efficiency by as much as 4%. The roof and front end are fully integrated to create a smoother surface that reduces drag, and everything from the grille, side fins, headlights, and bumper to the door, wheel arches, and side skirts are designed to close gaps. The S-WAY’s interior is designed for long-haul operations. The adjustable seat features a thicker cushion for improved comfort, the steering wheel has a flat base that leaves more room for the driver, and the controls, including the 22 switches on the steering wheel, are all laid out ergonomically to reduce strain.
