Essex-Based Liquid Waste Disposal Company Adds 5 New Mercedes-Benz Arocs 2633 Tanker Trucks To Fleet

Environmental Waste Management, a liquid waste disposal specialist based in Epping, Essex, recently added five new Arocs 2633 trucks to its all-Mercedes-Benz fleet. Each vehicle is a 26-tonne (29-U.S.-ton), 6x4 tanker with a ClassicSpace M-cab and a 10.7-litre, 322-horsepower (240-kilowatt) engine and a 12-speed Mercedes PowerShift 3 automated manual gearbox. The trucks are also outfitted with VJ Engineering split tank bodies with capacities of 3,500 and 13,000 litres (925 and 3,434 gallons) for clean water and liquid waste, respectively. The Arocs’ power take-off (PTO) runs dedicated pumps in each of the tank sections.

    Visibility & Safety Are Key

Because Environmental Waste Management operates primarily in London, the company will need to adhere to the Direct Vision standard, which goes into effect on 1 March. To aid in visibility, the liquid waste specialist opted for the narrowest cab option and added MirrorCam systems that replace traditional mirrors with roof-mounted cameras and A-pillar-mounted displays inside the cab, which reduces blind spots and improves rear visibility. Those features coupled with a large windscreen give the Arocs a Direct Vision rating of three stars.

Adding to the safety profile of the Arocs is Active Brake Assist 5 emergency braking, a system that uses cameras and radar to monitor the area directly around the vehicle. While the previous iteration could only apply brakes at 50%, the newest one can bring the truck to a complete stop when a pedestrian is detected. The technology also works at speeds of up to 50 km/h (31 mph).

    Keeping Up With Growth

Although Environmental Waste Management has only been in business for one year, it quickly became an invaluable resource for hauling away waste water during floods and also for removing non-potable water from construction sites generated from hand-washing stations. That demand led the company to add an additional five Mercedes-Benz vehicles, all of which were supplied by S & B Commercials and are covered by five-year Complete Service Contracts. The dealer will also provide servicing from a mobile technician.

“My shareholders were already operating Mercedes-Benz products in other businesses and are very well served by S & B Commercials,” says Environmental Waste Management MD Steve Strudwick. “We’re now benefiting from that relationship, too, as well as from the premium quality of the vehicles themselves. The new Arocs look fantastic, lead the field in terms of safety, and are perfectly tailored to the requirements of our business, while S & B Commercials’ Truck Sales Manager Sam Setterfield was exceptionally helpful.”
