Jeremy Bishop Haulage, a site clearance, hazardous waste removal, and recycling specialist based in Totnes, Devon, recently added two IVECO Stralis X-WAYs to its 18-vehicle fleet. Each of the trucks is a 26-tonne (28.7-U.S.-ton) 6x4 tipper, spec’d as an AD260X42Z OFF, with an Active Day cab, a Cursor 11 420-horsepower (313-kilowatt) engine, and a 12-speed HI-TRONIX automatic gearbox.
The firm also added two 32-t (35-U.S.-t) 8x4 Stralis X-WAY tippers back in May 2020, each spec’d as an AD340X48Z OFF with an Active Day Cab and 480-HP (358-kW) Cursor 11 engine. In fact, it was a positive experience with an X-WAY demonstrator that sealed the deal for both that order and this more recent one. Other selling points included quiet operation, a tight turning radius, and payload capacity, with the 6x4 and 8x4 X-WAYs supporting 15,000 and 19,500 kilograms (33,069 and 42,990 pounds), respectively.
“The X-WAY provides me with more than 1 tonne extra of payload compared to other tippers,” says Jeremy Bishop, managing director of Jeremy Bishop Haulage. “The chassis is strong and light, and our drivers have never been stuck despite the demanding conditions our vehicles constantly find themselves in.”
Purpose-Built For Off-Road Operation
Because Jeremy Bishop Haulage opted for the Off-Road specification with its Stralis X-WAYs, the tippers feature a higher ground clearance, a steel bumper, and “an uprated front axle and front suspension,” IVECO explains. They also feature Taperlite steel tipper bodies, Edbro tipping equipment, and on-board weighing systems outfitted by Charlton Bodies of Kent. The company expects the trucks to cover roughly 70,000 kilometres (43,496 miles) per year and remain in operation for five years.
The vehicles were supplied by Hendy Van & Truck, which will also handle servicing under five-year Elements 3XL Repair & Maintenance contracts, ensuring maximum uptime. While this coverage gives Bishop “extra peace of mind,” it was his experience working with Hendy that really stands out.
“The Hendy team is very knowledgeable, but importantly they are genuinely interested in specifying trucks that will help run my business more efficiently,” says Bishop. “That’s why we went for the 6x4 configuration this time as it enables my drivers to gain access to restricted sites without a problem. We’ve got all avenues covered now with the 6x4 and 8x4 configurations.”
