Road-clearing firm Aebi Schmidt UK has purchased an 18-tonne Volvo FE 4x2 rigid with a beavertail body to haul demonstration units from its fleet of road sweepers, snow ploughs, and other machinery. Aebi Schmidt clears waste, vegetation, obstructions, and ice from airports and motorways.
“We needed something with a bigger payload capacity, so we took the decision to invest in this new FE and we couldn’t be happier with the finished result,” says Aebi Schmidt UK Technical Sales Manager David Harvey.
A Low Loader
Aebi Schmidt’s new Volvo FE has a D8K Euro 6 engine with a power output of 250 horsepower (186 kilowatts) and 900 newton-metres of torque. The truck uses Volvo’s smooth I-Shift gearbox.
“The quality of the product is superb. The demonstration team are delighted with it,” says Harvey. “We asked for a very low approach angle for loading, in the region of 12 degrees, as our sweepers all have brushes and are very low to the ground.”
Volvo Truck and Bus Centre East Anglia supplied the FE truck via Volvo Financial Services. It was modified by bodybuilders Sterling GP. The new FE is covered by a five-year Volvo Gold Contract, and it will be serviced and maintained in Peterborough.
