A. F. Blakemore & Son Ltd., a food and drink distributor based in Willenhall, recently purchased 10 new Volvo FE models, a mix of 4x2 and 6x2 rigid trucks. The 18-tonne models feature Comfort Cabs and 280-horsepower (209-kilowatt) D8K engines, whereas the 26-tonne models in the group have sleeper cabs and 320-horsepower (239-kilowatt) D8K engines. All 10 of the trucks also feature lower passenger door glazing panels for improved visibility and Cycle Alert side skirts in the front and rear. Volvo adds that the four 6x2 models “benefit from increased manoeuvrability” thanks to “electro-hydraulically steered tag axles.”
Perfect For Multi-Stop Deliveries
A. F. Blakemore currently operate a fleet of 291 trucks (60% of which are Volvo models) and 205 trailers. The newest FEs all feature either Gray & Adams or Solomon bodies and the company plans to keep the trucks in operation for 10 years performing “local and long-distance, multi-drop distribution of food and drink products,” Volvo explains.
A Trusted Volvo Supplier
A Volvo customer since the 1980s, the Willenhall logistics firm favour the brand due to the quality of the trucks and the service they receive from their local supplier. “We have enjoyed a good relationship with our local Volvo dealer Hartshorne Motor Services,” says Dave Higgs, logistics compliance manager at A. F. Blakemore. “They have been a favored truck in our fleet for many years, based on reliability, fuel performance, and positive driver feedback.”
