Scania recently announced a new length option for the Irizar i6S coach. The model is still based on a 9-litre, 360-horsepower (268.5-kilowatt) Scania chassis, but will now have a total length of 12.9 metres (42.3 feet) and a maximum capacity of 53 seats. Interior features will include three-point seatbelts at each of the passenger seats, leather head pads and seat back tables, Bosch audio equipment, a DVD player and two displays, centre sunken toilet, and hot water drink machine. The exterior will feature Alcoa Dura-Bright alloy wheels. All Irizar coaches come with two-year repair and maintenance packages.
The First Customer
Dunwood Travel, a holiday tour operator based in Dudley, will be the first to own the longer coach in January 2020. “We currently operate a 100% Scania fleet, of which all but one vehicle is the Scania Irizar combination. We approached Scania to see if they could build a 12.9-metre two-axle Irizar coach with 53 seats for added passenger comfort and are extremely pleased they have been able to offer this option,” says Phil Westwood, director at Dunwood Travel. “We purchased our first Scania Irizar vehicles back in 2014 and have consistently purchased them every year since. I personally like the fact that Scania look after both the body and chassis at their local dealerships, ensuring I get maximum utilisation and efficiency from the vehicles at all times.”
