AMP Clean Energy, a biomass, industrial energy, and urban reserve specialist based in London, recently purchased two new Volvo FM 8x2 Tridem trucks featuring 31-cubic-metre Transmanut bulk transport bodies. Supplied by Stuarts Truck and Bus, the 8x2 rigids have Globetrotter cabs, 420-horsepower D13K engines, I-Shift transmissions, and front steel and rear air suspensions, all on 5,100-milimetre chassis. AMP Clean Energy will use the new trucks at its depots in Berkshire and Cumbria to deliver wood pellets.
A First For The UK
The FM models also have dust extraction equipment and “are the first in the UK to feature on-board screening to reduce dust issues,” Volvo says, adding that in place of a tipping body, each truck features a “pneumatic delivery system and can access a much wider range of customer premises than equivalent raised body vehicles.” With AMP’s new trucks, the company is able to screen wood pellets at their facility as well as in the truck body for proper dust extraction before the pellets are fired up in biomass boilers.
Other Helpful Features
The new vehicles also feature automatic sheeting systems and a Charge by Weight system used to validate deliveries. All of these technologies work together to help AMP better serve its customers. “These new state-of-the-art Volvo trucks have the ability to completely transform the way we can distribute, deliver, and manage the quality of our wood pellets,” says Tony Vick, logistics director at AMP Clean Energy. “We’re delighted to be the first to bring these vehicles to the UK market, and continue to enhance the customer experience.”
