Westhoughton-based John Booth (Bolton) Ltd just added 10 new Volvo FM trucks to its all-Volvo fleet. The order is part of a total fleet renewal involving a total of 15 FM and three FH models. The new FMs are 6x2 Lite pusher axle tractor units with Globetrotter cabs, 450-horsepower Volvo D11K engines, I-Shift automated transmissions, 3,800-millimetre wheelbases, and front steel and rear air suspensions. They are also covered by five-year Volvo Gold Service Contracts, which offer quite a bit of flexibility when scheduling maintenance.
“We always schedule servicing on night shifts at Thomas Hardie Commercials’ Trafford Park dealerpoint, which maximises our vehicle productivity levels,” says Sarah J. Booth, managing director at James Booth (Bolton) Ltd. “Volvo trucks have a long-established presence in our fleet and it is the best brand for us. We specify our vehicles carefully, while monitoring the progress of technology. With the latter, we’ll adjust our vehicle retention periods to suit and embrace any new developments which help maximise operating efficiencies.”
Volvo Dynafleet
Another important feature that has John Booth (Bolton) Ltd sticking with the Volvo brand is the Dynafleet platform, which monitors vehicle performance and helps improve fuel efficiency. The company also takes advantage of Volvo’s training programmes to encourage drivers to use best practices while on the road.
“Our drivers really appreciate Volvo’s comfort and performance standards,” says Booth. “The three larger FH tractor units are utilised by those drivers who are away from base for most of the week on longer-distance jobs and therefore benefit from the extra interior space and additional facilities available.”
