MTS Haulage, based in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland, recently purchased a new Volvo FH16-750 6x4 tractor unit to aid in its tipper and heavy haulage operations. The truck features a Globetrotter XL cab, D16K Euro 6 engine that produces 750 horsepower, and an I-Shift Crawler automated transmission. With the help of Volvo’s Adaptive and Eco Cruise Control and Dynamic Steering technologies, the FH16-750 is well suited for running over uneven terrain.
Hill Climbing
The I-Shift transmission in the FH16-750 has ultra-lower crawler gears that work together with the Volvo Engine Brake for enhanced hill climbing capabilities, which means that, according to Volvo, the truck “can competently pull and hill-hold 120-tonnes gross.” Volvo I-See also helps in this process and saves fuel by engaging predictive cruise control that smartly shifts gears while ascending and descending hills. Furthermore, MTS Haulage opted for the Tandem Axle Lift configuration, which lets operators transition between tipper operations and heavy haul jobs for even more versatility.
Other Highlights
MTS Haulage’s Volvo FH16 is one-of-a-kind thanks to its custom black, silver, and red exterior paint job by RJM Spray Painting, and its custom cab design by Royal Class Truck Interiors. Additional highlights include a microwave, a lower bunk with electronic controls, Bluetooth connectivity, heated and ventilated leather seats, spotlights, Kelsa roof bars, and Alcoa Dura Bright alloys. Other features include a load indicator, reverse camera and monitor, and tyre pressure monitoring system.
