Blue Bus Innovations, a Luton-based airport shuttle startup that offers rides between London and the Luton airport, recently added six new vehicles to its all-IVECO fleet, including three Daily HI-MATIC compressed natural gas (CNG) minibuses with 16 seats and three Daily Tourys diesel minibuses with 19 seats. Blue Bus chose to operate CNG-powered minibuses, a first for the United Kingdom, because they not only offer a similar level of performance as diesel alternatives, but also offer 12% lower NOx emissions, 76% lower particulate matter emissions, and up to 95% lower CO2 emissions with the use of biomethane.
“We pride ourselves on being a responsible business. Whilst we strive to offer our customers the best service, we are also aware we need to minimise our impact on the environment,” says Tazio Puri Negri, managing director at Blue Bus Innovations. “That’s why we turned to IVECO. Their natural gas offering is the best on the market and was the only choice for us as we get our business on the move. And with emissions restrictions set to get even tougher, we will look to increase our fleet of alternative fuelled minibuses.”
Vehicle Details
The IVECO Daily CNG vans sport 3.0-litre engines that produce 140 horsepower and are around 4 decibels quieter than diesel alternatives. IVECO says this will help reduce noise pollution, “which is a major benefit particularly for late-night drop-offs.” The IVECO Tourys minibuses have 3.0-litre engines that produce 180 horsepower, and they feature leather seats with three-point seatbelts, LED lighting throughout, air conditioning vents for each passenger, and luggage compartments with 2.5 cubic meters of space. All six of these vehicles are backed by IVECO Elements repair and maintenance packages. They also share the same wheelbase size at 4,100 millimetres and 8-speed HI-MATIC automatic transmissions.
