CEVA Logistics recently purchased a fleet of 85 Volvo FM tractor units that will “transport British Gypsum’s interior lining systems from five specialist-manufacturing sites to more than 3,500 stockists throughout the UK,” according to Volvo. Each of the 6x2 fixed pusher axle trucks features a 450-horsepower Volvo D11K Euro 6 engine, 12-speed I-Shift automated transmission, and RSS1356 single reduction axles. Other features include Globetrotter cabs, Volvo Engine Brakes (VEBs), and Extra Low chassis heights.
“We have a very close working relationship with British Gypsum where we share the same goals and ideals for the safety of the equipment we operate,” says Eddie Aston, managing director UK, Ireland, and Nordics for CEVA Logistics. “These new Volvo trucks enable us to deliver the best possible service to our customer's supply chain while operating to the highest safety standards and delivering on the customer's sustainable transport requirements.”
Safety In Focus
A major selling point of the Volvo FM for CEVA is safety, which starts with the Extra Low chassis height that makes it easier for the driver to get in and out as well as get a better view of the road and surroundings. Other security measures include the Advanced Emergency Braking System, the Lane Changing Radar system, Lane Keeping Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control, left turn alarms, CCTV cameras, and anti-spill fuel tanks. CEVA’s 85 trucks also feature Thatcham H2-approved immobilisers and sensors that ensure trailers are set at the right height and properly connected to the truck.
