The Wm. Hare Group, which is based in Bury, Lancashire, recently purchased its first Volvo truck, a new FM-460 6x2 tractor. The FM truck, which was supplied by Thomas Hardie Commercials Ltd, sports a Volvo D13K 13-litre engine that produces 460 horsepower, an I-Shift automated transmission with Long Haul gear change software, and a Globetrotter cab. It also features a rear air suspension, a 2.64:1 ratio drive axle, and a 7.5-tonne fixed pusher axle, and a Jost JSK37 fifth wheel. The company opted for the Volvo Gold Service contract on its FM-460 for 36 months.
The Top Choice
“Before purchasing a new truck, we asked some of our sub-contractors for feedback on truck makes and performance standards. We needed a workhorse to haul steel and fabrications between our network of depots across England,” says Amie Smith, transport and logistics manager at Wm. Hare Group. “Volvo came back as the top choice for reliability and durability, so we were happy to proceed with the order for an FM-460 with Thomas Hardie Commercials.”
Already A Hit
Although the truck has only been in operation since July, Smith and the company’s driver are already fans. “I'm happy with its performance and so far its fuel returns across the M62 Motorway are impressive and a real improvement on our other two trucks,” she says. “[The driver] really loves the FM Globetrotter Cab's comfort levels and it has proved an easy truck to work with. We'll definitely consider Volvo again for future fleet purchases.”
